Stone coated steel roofing systems are available in natural colors and offer striking looks paired with the durability of steel panels. Stone coated steel roofing is finished with a thick layer of stone that permanently adheres to a 24 or 26-guage rust resistant steel core. The stone coating offers additional durability and creates a decorative appearance. Stone coated steel roofing is made by coating Galvalume® with stone granules. The stone granules are applied with acrylic polymer adhesives, resulting in a lightweight roofing system reinforced with the strength of steel. Hand-split wood shake roofing is high-maintenance in comparison to stone coated steel roofing. Wood shake roofing is only minimally resistant to impact and moisture.
